What a surprise - just on my way out to work this morning when I saw something different on the Nijer seed. Got my binocs and really wasnt sure what it is, but could see a Goldfinch at the back of the feeder and this bird just was not one of those.

Grabbed me book and found it was a Redpoll I have never seen one before, hence my uncertainty as to what it was, so Im really pleased to have yet another new species visit my garden.

Nice one Linda, I usually see a few of these each year, although none yet this year Lovely little Birds.

Yeah, Im quite excited about this and really hope it comes again - and bring some mates lol.

So far this winter has been the best yet in our garden for birds and new visitors during the 4 years we have lived here.

I just wish I had had time to get my scope out and see it more clearly

Hi Linda, lucky you! We used to get a few Redpolls visiting the feeders when we were in our last house (plus regular Siskin visits), but I've never seen one here.

Better polish the windows so you can shoot through them!

Hi Nigel - well I hope its not a one-off, it would be lovely to see them regularly.

Im not hopeful about getting pics, least of all through the window cos the nijer feeder is down the end of the garden and even with my 400mm it would be pushing it a bit and lighting isnt brilliant in that part of the garden. A larger bird up in the tree with a lovely blue sky would be worth doing though lol.

Lucky you having them in your garden. I've tried to get pics of them but they have been at the top of a tall tree or in an Alder but very mobile when I tried to get a little closer to them. Your garden list just keeps growing well spotted I dont think you miss very much.

Hi Charly - well it was only 1 lol and I havent seen it today so maybe it was just passing through and stopped for a snack.

Yes, the list is nicely increasing I think I miss quite a bit Charly as I am out at work, but its surprsing what you see when you are having your last cuppa looking out of the window before you leave lol.

Had a few in the top of our birches some years ago, but none for the last two at least.

Well, I am only seeing 1 and I saw it again today, so its still around I definitely dont need to look this one up again.

Its been a good weekend for birds in the garden - wish I could spend all day watching them lol
