A little surprised this morning when I went to empty the Rayburn, to find two Little Egrets roosting in a tree just over the garden wall in the nature reserve next door. The sight was straight out of a Chinese painting, white birds on black branches surrounded by a light mist in an early morning light. Stunning. Sadly they were as surprised as me and flew off before I could go grab my camera. I reckon that, as the tree branches overhang the garden, although not the actual branches they were roosting on, I can call this a garden tick......maybe? ;)

Well, just come back from checking the sheep in time to see one egret circling the trees in the reserve. Not sure if it saw me but it flew off again :( Maybe they'll return when it's a bit darker.
