Have moffers ever had a worse year climatically in Britain from an insect point of view in the last ten years than 2012? Jean

Probably not, Jean, it does seem that almost anyone who has commented has had nothing good to say. Mind you, numbers in my garden were only about 15% down on last year (although that of course was nothing much to write about, either) and I had 16 new species for the 'list' (for what that's worth) so it was still worth putting a light out, from a 'trainspotting' POV. It was a washout when it came to doing anything meaningful out and about in the field; leaf mines have been exceptionally poor.
