We don't remember seeing this large lovely hoverfly in the garden before this year. Spotted one flying up into the hedge last week & noticed the large area of primrose yellow on it's abdomen. Then saw it again on another day feeding on Brachycome in a patio pot; went to quickly for a photo. I went down the garden with my compact camera in my pocket yesterday. The large area of marjoram was heaving with hovers & Gatekeeper butterflies (also a Holly Blue), & there feeding also was H. trivittatus - I pursued him, eager for a photo, in the bright sunlight. These are the best I could manage. :D Jean
