We were walking beside Exeter Canal on Saturday last to see what we could see. It was rather noisy with canoes being paddled furiously by mainly 40 something men talking loudly as they did so. Cyclists on the other side were no less verbose, joggers less so. In between their passing their were bird calls & the sound of water rushing over the field as we walked slowly along the towpath cameras at the ready. There were still 7 house martins plying their trade over the canal. This lovely cricket was sitting quietly on a nettle leaf - one that we had not knowingly seen before, a Short-winged Conehead.
