I've been trying some photostacking software. It's certainly not easy!! The shot below was the result of stacking over 50 images, and I'm still not very pleased with the results. Does anyone else use this technique? I'd very much appreciate any tips...

Hi Tony,

I occasionally use photo stacking if it's a prized specimen and quite 3 dimensional, otherwise I don't usually bother.Thorns are a good example.

I simply photograph parts at varying distances from the camera but from the same angle and then cut and paste the sharpest bits together, no additional software used.My camera has virtually no depth of field with moths so it can be very useful.Sorry I can't be of more help.

Charlie.

You guys might be interested in the software called Zerene Photo stacking - I believe there is a free version available.

I dont do stacking myself but know a fair number of photographers who do. One in particular is Brian (Web name is LordV) is one of the best at macro photography and stacking. Here is a link to many of his tutorials - scroll down the page to find his stacking tutorial.

Hope that helps.

This nice fresh Poplar Kitten appeared last night. I tried another photo-stack, which seems a little better that my last effort, especially with the full sized file.
