Is it possible to id this difficult group from a few photos. It couldn't have been more than 3mm long. We had another like it, with a 'big white collar' in May, but our out-door shots are too poor for consideration. This time we were able to pot it & get some pics. Any Stigmella experts around? We have lots of big birch here, so foodplant isn't a problem. I thought it could be S. luteella, but who knows! Jean

Sorry Jan for not replying earlier. I have no confidence in the identification of the majority of nepticulids from photos of adults I'm afraid.

Mike

I don't think we can record this delightful little Stigmella, but we sent pics to Bob H. & he said it could be S. luteella, or possibly S. glutinosae. Either way it is a good learning exercise for us. Thanks for answering this post Mike - your input is always valuable. :) Jean & Graham
