Notes: Local on downland and in other dry localities (unlike its congeners, which are mainly woodland species), flying throughout the summer, feeding on the pollen of many herbaceous plants and hawthorn. The larva probably feeds on plant detritus in grass tussocks, etc.
UK distribution: Throughout the British Isles including the Channel Islands, excluding Orkney and Shetland.
