Notes: Locally abundant, often swarming on flowers of a wide range of herbaceous plants, such as buttercup, sedges, dog's mercury etc, feeding on the pollen. Like its congeners, the larva probably feeds on plant detritus.
UK distribution: Throughout Great Britain and Ireland but not Shetland or the Channel Islands.
