2021 Pine Processionary (Thaumetopoea pityocampa) ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) - (Thaumetopoeidae / Thaumetopoeinae)


Status: Vagrant/Accidental
Notes: Very rare immigrant, mainland Europe, appearing as a migrant on the south coast of Britain. Wingspan male 36-39mm, female 40-46mm. Nocturnal; late May to early July. Frequents coniferous woodland and plantations. Larva April to June, having over-wintered as an egg, no evidence of breeding in the UK. Larva feeds on Corsican Pine and Maritime Pine, causing sufficient damage to be a serious pest in some areas.
