2022 Oak Processionary (Thaumetopoea processionea) (Linnaeus, 1758) - (Thaumetopoeidae / Thaumetopoeinae)


Notes: Rare immigrant, mainland Europe, appearing as a migrant on the south coast of Britain. Wingspan male 31-35mm, female 36-41mm. Nocturnal; July to September. Frequents broad-leaved woodland and oak woodland. Larva May to June, having over- wintered as an egg, no evidence of breeding in the UK. Larva feeds on Sessile Oak, Pedunculate Oak, Turkey Oak and Evergreen Oak, causing sufficient damage to be a serious pest in some areas.
