2053 Speckled Footman (Coscinia cribraria) (Linnaeus, 1758) - (Arctiidae / Arctiinae)


Status: Migrant
Notes: An uncommon resident in Dorset but a very rare migrant from the continent in Hampshire. Wingspan 33-40mm. Nocturnal; July to August. Frequents heathland; 50-150m. Larva August to June, no evidence of breeding in the UK. Larva feeds on Bri stle Bent, Heather, Bell Heather, Cross-leaved Heath and Bilberry.
