2094 Great Dart (Agrotis crassa) (Hübner, 1803) - (Noctuidae / Noctuinae)


Status: Rare migrant
Notes: Rare immigrant, the Canary Islands and southern Europe, appearing as a migrant on the south coast of Britain. Wingspan 40-48mm. Nocturnal; July to September. Frequents dry open areas and vineyards. Larva September to May, very limited evidence of breeding in the UK. Larva feeds on roots and lower stems of various herbaceous plants and Grape Vines, causing sufficient damage to be a serious pest in some areas.
