Scarlet TigerThis site is dedicated to the moths of Hampshire, England. I have set out to illustrate as many species as I can from the county, and to provide details of their distribution and status, through the use of maps and narrative. I also hope that it will prove useful for those visiting the site for assistance in specimen identification (if you're new to moths and are really stuck, click on the 'Need Help?' button).

The basis of the site is a library of digital photographic images, the majority of which have been actually photographed in the county, but where no such image is available, or better quality representative images have been obtained elsewhere, these are included. I hope that they will prove of interest, both as a basis for identification, as discussion points if you doubt my identification (I'm by no means infallible - take that as a health warning!), and to provide a window on the often beautiful animals that inhabit our night skies for the uninitiated.

The Forester, Odiham CommonThe photographs on this site are a result of the generosity of a large number of contributors from all over the country, or taken by myself. I am always attempting to improve the quality and scope of the site, so if you have images of species that are not illustrated here, show different forms, or are of better quality than those currently shown, and are willing to share them, I would be more than happy to hear from you. I have a wishlist of species that are yet to be added, contributions for which would be gratefully received.
