Hantsmoths

Common in hedgerows and open woodland throughout the British Isles, but not in the north. The distribution in Hampshire mirrors those areas in which trapping effort is concentrated, and the moth is probably more widely distributed than the records suggest; only recorded once on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 11-14 mm. Characterised by the absence of distinguishing field characteristics, predominately grey, with a white head. Larva mines leaves of Hawthorn, Rowan and Dog Rose, subsequently living within a silken web, often several together.
