Nationally scarce (Na) in birch woodland from Cumbria to the extreme north of Scotland, but apparently absent from the Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland, and from Co. Durham, where there is no recent record (MBGBI Vol 3). Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 8-11 mm. Larva mines leaves of Downy Birch, preferring young trees, beneath a silken web, often several together.
