Hantsmoths

Rare (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in sand-dunes, hedgerows and roadside verges. Recorded regularly only from Landguard Bird Observatory, Suffolk, where more than twenty were logged in 2004; also at Berrow, Somerset (March 1995), Dartford, Kent (January 1965), Somerset (1955), Suffolk, Derbyshire and Hampshire. In Hampshire, the three specimens in the Wm Fassnidge collection, 1929-1930, from Southampton, are the only records. Not recorded on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 16-17 mm. The most likely confusion species is A. heracliana, which see for differences. Larva feeds on Bur Chervil, Rough Chervil and Cow Parsley, living between flowers and leaves spun together with silk.
