A rare and declining (pRBD3) species of open grassland bordering hedgerows, weedy banks, parkland and gardens, with only three records since 2000 (Gelechiid Recording Scheme). In Hampshire recorded only once to date, at Farnborough in August 1996. Wingspan 9-11.5 mm. Similar to
C. viscariella,
C. alsinella and
C. junctella, from which differs in the shape of the fuscous blotch and the angle it makes with the costa.
The larva feeds from late April to early July on the flowers and seeds of Common Mouse-ear and Common Chickweed in an inconspicuous spinning in a shoot or within a seed capsule spun to the lower leaf with a little silk. The adult may be found resting on tree trunks, occasionally flies in late afternoon, flies at night and comes to light.
