0877 Stathmopoda pedella (Linnaeus, 1761) - (Oecophoridae / Stathmopodinae)

Notes: Nationally scarce (Nb) in damp woodland throughout south-eastern England, north to Yorkshire. Very infrequently recorded in Hampshire, however the four reported in 2008 represent the highest yearly count for some time, and are perhaps the result of the recent, somewhat wetter summers. First recorded on the Isle of Wight at Freshwater in 2011. Wingspan 10-14 mm. Unmistakable, with remarkable resting posture in which hind legs point upwards, a resting posture shared only by the otherwise dissimilar Schreckensteinia festaliella. Larva feeds on catkins, buds and leaves of Alder and Grey Alder, over-wintering as a pupa.
