Nationally scarce (Nb) in damp pastures and marshes, by river-banks and ditches in England, from Kent to Devon, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, northwards to Lancashire and Yorkshire, and in a few locations in Wales. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 18-22 mm. In general appearance somewhat resembles lighter forms of A. semifasciana, but differing in the narrower forewing, the whiter ground colour and the dark suffusion along the dorsum [Bradley]. Larva feeds on White Willow and Crack Willow, living between leaves spun together with silk.
