Nationally scarce (Na) on calcareous grassland and shingle beaches in parts of south-eastern England, predominantly coastal. In Hampshire resident at low density on South Hayling and Portsdown Hill. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight since singles in 1951 and 1974. Wingspan 24-29 mm. Distinctive and easy to recognise. Larva feeds within stems and leaves of Viper's-bugloss.
