1534 Grizzled Skipper (Pyrgus malvae) (Linnaeus, 1758) - (Hesperiidae / Pyrginae)

 

Notes: A vulnerable Red Data Book species, in woodland clearings, woodland edges, rough grassland and chalk and limestone districts; 100-350 m (0-1900 m in Europe) in parts of southern England; mainland Europe and Fennoscandia. In Hampshire can still be found at a few downland sites, including Martin Down and Stockbridge Down, and on the Isle of Wight at Cranmore, but has declined generally and now absent from many former strongholds. Wingspan 22-26 mm. Larva feeds on Tormentil, Creeping Cinquefoil, Wild Strawberry, Agrimony and Bramble.
