1541a Réal's Wood White (Leptidea reali) Reissinger, 1989 - (Pieridae / Dismorphiinae)

 

Status: Ireland only
Notes: Local in woodland clearings, woodland edges, undercliffs and scrub; 100-300 m (100-2000 m in Europe) throughout much of Ireland; mainland Europe and Scandinavia. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 36-48 mm. Indistinguishable in the field from Wood White, from which separable only by dissection of the genitalia. Larva feeds on Meadow Vetchling, Bitter Vetchling, Tufted Vetch, Bird's-foot Trefoil and Greater Bird's-foot Trefoil.
