Local on damp heathland, mosses, flower meadows, woodland and scrub; 400-900 m (300-1500 m in Europe) throughout much of the Scottish Highlands; central and eastern Europe. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 35-40 mm. Larva feeds on Purple Moor-grass and Blue Moor-grass.
