Hantsmoths

Local on moorland, and in broad-leaved woodland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens throughout much of Britain and Ireland, especially in upland areas. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight has decreased in the county to the verge of extinction. Wingspan 34-40 mm. The most likely confusion species is Red-green Carpet C. siterata, which see for differences. Larva feeds on various broad-leaved trees, including Sallow, Birch, Alder, Lime, Wild Rose and Rowan.
