Common but nowhere numerous, in damp woodland, hedgerows, scrub, orchards and gardens throughout lowland England and Wales; fairly well distributed in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 22-28 mm. Combination of white ground colour and blue-grey terminal band is distinctive. Larva feeds on Alder and Blackthorn, with which it appears to be particularly associated In southern England, over-wintering as an egg.
