Local in woodland, scrub, hedgerows, calcareous grassland and acid heathland throughout much of England, Wales and southern Scotland. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight local and uncommon. Wingspan 38-48 mm. The most likely confusion species is Scarce Tissue Rheumaptera cervinalis, which see for differences. Larva feeds on Buckthorn and Alder Buckthorn.
