Notes:
Common, in open woodland, woodland rides, woodland edges, woodland clearings, mature hedgerows, calcareous grassland and sand-dunes, throughout much of the British Isles. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight, this species used to be common in areas of open woodland with a strong growth of the foodplant, but has decreased considerably, with little evidence of recovery. Wingspan 26-32mm. Fairly unmistakable. Larva feeds on flowers and seeds of Red Campion and White Campion, over-wintering as a pupa.
