Common on moorland and calcareous grassland on native forms of the foodplant, and gardens and parks on cultivated forms throughout much of the British Isles. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight fairly widespread, and attached to cultivated juniper as well as the very local wild populations. Wingspan 17-21 mm. Shows a distinctive pale patch distad of the discal spot, and flies early in the year. Larva feeds on Juniper, over-wintering as an egg.
