Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from mainland Europe. Between 1815 and 1859 two specimens were taken in Berkshire, one in Essex, one in Yorkshire and three in north Wales; there has been no subsequent record. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 33-42 mm. Unmistakable. Larva feeds on various herbaceous plants and grasses, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
