2423a Eastern Nycteoline (Nycteola asiatica) (Kruilkovsky, 1904) - (Noctuidae / Chloephorinae)

 

Status: Migrant
Notes: Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from mainland Europe, appearing mainly in eastern England. Recorded for the first time at Lydd, Kent on 20 September 1993, with subsequent records from Kent in 1999, Suffolk in 2002, East Yorkshire in 2002 and Dorset in 2005. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 26-28 mm. It is unlikely that records of this species will be accepted unless the specimen is retained for examination. Larva feeds on Sallow, Black Poplar and White Poplar, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
