A. pyramidea has a white tip to the palp and cream or ochreous scales down the sides of the end segment and the next, giving an even, relatively pale look.

Svensson's Copper Underwing - palps

The tip of the palp is white, contrasting with dark hairs on the remainder, resulting in the tip standing out from a dark background. This is often very obvious even with the naked eye, especially under artificial light.
