04.033 [B&F: 0076] Stigmella carpinella (Heinemann, 1862)


Vulnerable (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) and known in Britain only from a series bred from mines on hornbeam taken in Sussex. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 5-6 mm. The forewings are dark fuscous without the yellow base characteristic of S. floslactella. Larva mines leaves of Hornbeam, over-wintering as a pupa.
