Classification

Family:Gracillariidae
Subfamily:Phyllocnistinae
Genus:Phyllocnistis
Species:unipunctella
Authority:(Stephens, 1834)

Locally common in woodland, areas with scattered trees and gardens throughout much of southern England and southern Wales, with records north to Cheshire. The scattered nature of records in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight broadly reflects the extent of distribution of the host plants, and the extent to which recording effort has been concentrated (historically, principally around the Portsmouth area). Wingspan 7-8 mm. While MBGBI 2 says that the species comes readily to light, the majority of records relate to the leaf mine.. Larva mines leaves of Black Poplar and Lombardy Poplar.
