Nationally scarce (Na) in peat bogs and marshes in parts of western Scotland and western Ireland. The only record for Hampshire, is labelled Southampton, 6 August 1938. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 7-8 mm. Can be reliably separated from other similar Elachista species only by dissection of the genitalia. Larva mines leaves of Sedge and Common Cotton-sedge.
