Nationally scarce (Nb) on heathland and lightly wooded slopes in parts of the Scottish Highlands and northern Wales, rare in northern England. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 14-16 mm. Similar to O. micana but distinguished by its narrower forewing and more sharply defined markings [Bradley]. Larva feeds on various mosses.
