Rare (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) in marshy woodland, damp pastures, river-banks and ditches in parts of south-eastern England. In Hampshire there are recent records only from Hookheath Meadows NR and Needs Ore; has been recorded in the past from Chandlers Ford, Botley Wood, Emer Bog and Ashurst. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight since 1930. Wingspan 10-14 mm. The dark general appearance and the dense orange-ochreous irroration in the distal half of the forewing and the pale ochreous-yellow medio-dorsal blotch are characteristic [Bradley]. Larva feeds within roots of Sneezewort.
