Local in moorland and mountains throughout much of south-western England, Wales, northern England and Scotland. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 18-22mm. Very similar to E. truncicolella; the postmedian line is nearly straight from post-discal curve to dorsum in E. murana whereas in E. truncicolella it is zigzag [Goater]. Larva feeds on various mosses, often on walls.
