62.045 [B&F: 1464a] Zophodia grossulariella (Hübner, [1809])

Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from mainland Europe. Recorded just three times in Britain: at Whitstable, Kent, on 30 April 1982; Rockland, Norfolk, on 26 May 1992; and Kingsdown, Kent, on 21 May 2001. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 25-36 mm. A large, grey phycitid with conspicuously dark-bordered first line [Goater]. Larva feeds on Gooseberry, causing sufficient damage to be a serious pest in some areas, no evidence of breeding in the UK.
