Common in dry grassland and rocky areas; 0-2100 m throughout much of mainland Europe. An extremely rare immigrant to the UK, less frequent in recent years than in the past, and now far from annual in occurrence. A very rare immigrant to Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 42-54 mm. Very similar to f. helice of Clouded Yellow and Pale Clouded Yellow. Larva feeds on Horseshoe Vetch and Crown Vetch.
