Common in woodland edges, rough grassland and hedgerows; 0-600 m (0-2100 m in Europe) throughout much of the British Isles, but not in the Highlands or Islands of Scotland; mainland Europe and Scandinavia. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight widespread and common. Wingspan 38-48 mm. Larva feeds on Cuckooflower and Garlic Mustard.
