Common in oak woodland and mature deciduous woodland; 0-600 m (0-2100 m in Europe) throughout much of southern Britain; mainland Europe and southern Scandinavia. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight may be encountered in most mature woodland, notably in the New Forest, Alice Holt and Pamber Forest. Wingspan 34-38 mm. Larva feeds on Oak.
