Local in calcareous grassland, chalk downland, quarries, embankments, hedgerows, woodland rides and sea cliffs throughout much of southern England, rarely northwards to southern Scotland. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight rare but fairly regular on what remains of the chalk country, in all three vice-counties. Wingspan 26-30 mm. Unmistakable. Larva feeds on Lady's Bedstraw and Hedge Bedstraw, over-wintering as a pupa.
