Common on moorland, heathland and woodland, generally on high ground, in south-western and northern England, Wales and Scotland. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 33-40 mm. The most likely confusion species are Chevron E. testata
and Dark Spinach (Pelurga comitata), which see for differences. Larva feeds on Bilberry, over-wintering as an egg.
