Common in a wide range of habitats, including gardens, parks, broad-leaved woodland, calcareous grassland, fens, heathland and moorland throughout the British Isles. Widespread and very common in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 32-39 mm. Very variable, with some forms resembling corresponding forms of Dark Marbled Carpet C. citrata, which see for differences. Larva feeds on various woody plants, including Silver and Downy Birch, Bramble, Heather, Privet and Hawthorn.
