Common in broad-leaved woodland, calcareous grassland, hedgerows and gardens throughout the British Isles. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight widespread, although less common than formerly, and normally associated with dog-rose in hedgerows on the chalk. Wingspan 25-30 mm. Unmistakable. Larva feeds on Dog-rose and Burnet Rose, as well as Cultivated Rose, over-wintering as an egg.
