Common in broad-leaved woodland, hedgerows, scrub, parks and gardens throughout the British Isles. Widespread and common in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 27-21 mm. Easily recognised by the characteristic central band, which is pinched at the mid-point. Larva feeds on various broad-leaved trees and shrubs, including Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Downy Birch and Pedunculate Oak, over-wintering as a pupa.
