Purported to be local in broad-leaved woodland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens in parts of England. Now considered to be conspecific with, Engrailed E. bistortata. Larva said to feed on Downy Birch, Silver Birch, Sallow and Beech, over-wintering as a pupa.
