A rare Red Data Book species, on sand-dunes and shingle beaches, in parts of East Anglia and Kent, and a very occasional immigrant on southern coasts elsewhere. In Hampshire, recorded for the first time at Fareham on 22 July 2004. Wingspan 24-28mm. Smaller than other British Eilema species. Voucher specimen should be retained for confirmation of identification for records of this species away from known sites. Larva feeds on various lichens.
