Very rare immigrant (less than 10 previous UK records) from North America, recorded once in Britain on Skokholm Island, Pembrokeshire at the end of July 1948 and likely to have been ship-assisted, although the possibility of it being a genuine migrant cannot be ruled out, with no further records to date. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 46-50 mm. Not unlike Crimson Speckled U. pulchella but with pink instead of white hindwings. Larva feeds on herbaceous plants; no evidence of breeding in the UK.
